The whole Mid-Winter collection started while I was still living in Halifax - It was a way for me to explore cultural connection in a "safe" way; through making and research. Ultimately this collection led to many questions; what is the proper way to do research as an indigenous person, and how are protocols related to research?
I started by simply being inspired by the textures and colours of the landscape of my homelands, and then exploring traditional forms in traditional garments and objects, such as metis coats, chippewa bark hats, and cradleboards.
This was also a material exploration; most of the materials were sourced locally to me and / or were waste products; local wool, silk factory waste, local yarn.
